The world’s first atmospheric environment monitoring satellite equipped with active lidar carbon dioxide detection in China’s space infrastructure will be launched in July 2021 to achieve all-day, high-precision monitoring of atmospheric carbon dioxide.Zhang Xingying, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), director of the Institute of Satellite Meteorology at the National Satellite Meteorological Center, said in an interview in Beijing that the six-year project is expected to be ready for launch in the second half of this year. The active lidar payload of the world’s first active lidar carbon dioxide detection satellite uses backscattering reception and differential absorption detection systems to obtain vertical distribution information of global atmospheric carbon dioxide, clouds and aerosols.
